From fences to façade cladding, from pergolas to carports, there is a wide variety of wooden garden projects for you to take on. Do you prefer to work with wood that is certified to be sustainably harvested? Then you can use FSC® wood. This label gives you peace of mind that you are working with ecologically responsible wood.
FSC® or Forest Stewardship Council® is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1993 by forest owners, timber and paper companies, social movements and environmental organisations such as Greenpeace and WWF. The mission of the organisation? To promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.
Cities and municipalities have, for a number of years, been required to work with FSC® wood, which is also becoming increasingly popular among private individuals. For a wood trading company to be allowed to sell FSC® wood, it is subjected to an annual evaluation. If you are specifically looking for FSC® wood, the only way to make sure is to ask for the supplier's Chain of Custody number.
This COC number can be checked on the FSC® website. A label on the wood is not a guarantee, but an invoice clearly stating that the wood is FSC® certified and the seller's COC number is. The supply of FSC® wood is limited, so you will generally pay slightly more than for other tropical hardwood species. The primary purpose of FSC® wood is to certify that the entire process has taken place in an ecologically and socially responsible manner.
Jadimex sells FSC® wood in addition to other ecological alternatives. Would you like more information about FSC® labelled wood? Or do you have any questions relating to the FSC® label? Send us an email using the contact form, or drop by for a visit.
